Auricular Acupuncture

Auricular acupuncture is one of the many modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is done by stimulating specific points on the outer ear. Although small, the ear has the highest density of acupuncture points of the body. Points on the ear are may be associated with an organ, body part, or even parts of the brain. Most auricular points are regulating points which means they can be used to tonify or sedate.  Points on the ear can be used alone or as a part of a full body treatment.
 
After a treatment, small pellets of herbs or metal may be placed on the ear. This allows the patient to stimulate the points between treatment sessions to prolong effects. Some physicians use small tacks instead of seeds. Axis Natural Medicine does not use that practice. An acupuncture physician may use auricular acupuncture to treat headaches, hypertension, asthma, back pain, and even nausea. This technique is also effective for the treatment of addiction to cigarettes, recreational drugs, prescription drugs, and even food.
